Board of Directors

Brooklyn Cooperative’s Board of Directors is composed of seven individuals. Each director is a credit union member who brings some special knowledge and expertise to the board, helping board members to carry out their policy making, oversight, and community outreach responsibilities.

Margot Brandenburg – Chair  Margot Brandenburg is the lead entrepreneur for a social enterprise called MyStrongHome and a consultant in the field of impact investing and social enterprise. She was previously a program officer at the Rockefeller Foundation, has co-authored a book called The Power of Impact Investing, and is an adjunct faculty member at NYU's Stern School of Business. She has been on our board since 2008 and has been Chairperson since 2009.
Ronique Thompson – Vice Chair
Samira Rajan – Secretary  Samira Rajan was named CEO of Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union in October 2008.  She is also the Director of the credit union's 501c3 affiliate, Grow Brooklyn.  Samira has been with the credit union from its first year when she served as an Americorp*VISTA volunteer. After the year of service was complete, she joined as full-time staff in 2002 as Loan Officer and has taken on increasing levels of responsibility ever since. Her educational background includes a BA from Bryn Mawr College and an MPP from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.  She was raised in Queens, New York, and currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.
Doug Jones is a life-long resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant.  A member of Community Board 3, he has been in initiatives relating to economic and small business development in Brooklyn for the past decade including work for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, New York City’s EDC, and the Bed-Stuy Restoration Corp. Currently he works at a real estate brokerage firm with commercial tenants and landlords in and around Central Brooklyn. Mr Jones has an MFA in Writing from Columbia University and a BA from Morehouse College.
Mark Winston Griffith
Jose Rolando Guzmán is the Assistant Director for Community Preservation at St Nicks Alliance, a community development organization in north Brooklyn. He organizes Northern Brooklyn community residents against displacement and around environmental justice issues.  He has been a member of the credit union’s Supervisory Committee since Dec 2011 and a Board member since 2012.
Rita Sahu, CFA has over 18 years of professional experience in banking.  For the last 11 years, she has been with the rating agency Moody's Investors Service. She is a Vice President - Senior Analyst performing credit analysis on US regional banks. She began her career as a bank examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.  She also held positions with Republic National Bank of New York and J.P. Morgan.
Mark Scarloss has over 20 years’ experience in Information Technology, primarily in Financial Services. For the past eight years, he has worked as Vice President and Chief Security Officer with management oversight of both Information Security and Physical security functions for a NYC-based subsidiary of a major global financial institution. Mark volunteered for Brooklyn Coop for three years prior to coming on to the Board in 2012, advising us on improvements to our technology and our physical security infrastructure.
