Board of Directors

Brooklyn Cooperative’s Board of Directors is composed of seven individuals. Each director is a credit union member who brings some special knowledge and expertise to the board, helping board members to carry out their policy making, oversight, and community outreach responsibilities.
 

Margot Brandenburg
Ms. Brandenburg is Associate Director at the Rockefeller Foundation, where she works on initiatives that pertain broadly to economic development and poverty reduction, including one focused on social investing. Another is devoted to the economic security of low-income U.S. workers.

Tracey Capers
Ms. Capers is Senior Vice President for Programs at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. Ms. Capers has held leadership posts in diverse nonprofits and in government, such as Vice President of Development at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Chief of Staff for the NYC Department of Small Business Services. A resident of Brooklyn, Ms. Capers serves on the boards of the Noel Pointer Foundation and the Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts.

Andrew Friedman
Mr. Friedman is a founding Co-Executive Director of Make the Road New York, a neighborhood organization fostering economic justice through participatory democracy and organizing activities.  He previously served in the organization as an attorney and organizer in the Economic Justice and Democracy Project and has had a diverse career in the field of immigrant rights in New York City.

Mark Winston Griffith
Mr. Griffith is a fellow at the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy and a columnist for the Gotham Gazette. Mark’s articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Nation, the New York Daily News, The Village Voice, and Essence magazine. In 2003 Mr. Griffith completed a twelve-year tenure as the founding Executive Director of the Central Brooklyn Partnership. During that time he also served as the founding Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Brooklyn Federal Credit Union, which at the time was the country’s largest Black-owned, community-based financial cooperative in the United States.

Roberto Marrero
Mr. Marrero is a Senior Staff Attorney at Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A. He has been employed by Brooklyn Legal since 1989, with two 2-year leaves of absence in that time: one to work as a legislative aide for a Brooklyn New York State Assemblyman and the second to work as a court attorney for a New York State Supreme Court Justice.

Samira Rajan
Ms. Rajan is Chief Executive Officer of Brooklyn Cooperative. She joined the credit union in its first year as a volunteer, and has held positions of increasing responsibility since then, including Loan Officer, Director of Lending, and Chief Operations Officer.

Ronique Thompson
Mr. Thompson works with the City of New York’s Human Resources Administration as a Job Opportunity Specialist. Past work experience includes serving as an Assistant Manager at the U.S. Open and as a Technical Analyst at Donovan Data Systems.
