Bk Coop Opens Chestnut Branch

Posted by Mashari Grissom on Jan 18 2023

[BROOKLYN, NY, Jan. 18] After years of planning and building, Brooklyn’s only community credit union opened its third full-service bank branch within Chestnut Commons on Tues. January 17th. With a celebratory brunch exclusively opened to its Brooklyn partners and politicians, the event was filled with smiles, networking, and light brunch food.

The full-service bank branch is now open in Chestnut Commons, an affordable housing development managed by Cypress Hills LDC.

About 85 supporters attended the grand opening event that took place on 282 Chestnut Street Brooklyn, NY, while being joined by local councilwoman, Sandra Nurse. She is also a loyal Brooklyn Cooperative member and supporter of the credit union.

Brooklyn Coop serves low-income neighborhoods with a sharp and specific approach: they provide fair and affordable financial products that directly address market gaps, building assets and resilience in their local communities.

The credit union specializes in small business loans (under $50,000), small personal loans (averaging less than $3000), and mortgages to first-time homebuyers. By opening up access to capital to those who may not have other, affordable options, Brooklyn Coop fulfills its mission of building wealth and opportunity for its members.

The celebratory brunch offered East New York community an introduction to the wide range of account, loan, and financial education resources provided by Brooklyn Coop. Swag bags were distributed to their local partners and $25 waivers were offered to prospective members.
