How old do you have to be to have an account?
If you are 12 years old or older, you can have your own account at the credit union, which you can use for deposits and withdrawals. Children younger than 12 years old need to be on an account with an adult.
Do I have to live in Brooklyn to open an account?

Brooklyn Coop’s Field of Membership are the Brooklyn Community Districts representing Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, East New York, and Brownsville, as well as Ridgewood in Queens. You don’t have to live in these neighborhoods to open an account, but you should have some connection. For example, if your family members live here, if you go to church or work in these neighborhoods, or if you have family or operate a business here, those facts count as connections to our communities.

What do I need to open a savings account?
You need to bring a government issued identification card with a photograph, your social security card, or ITIN card. Acceptable alternatives are a pay stub or health insurance card with your SS number. Also bring proof of your address, such as a bill that has been mailed to your address in your name. There is a one-time $25 nonrefundable membership fee to join the credit union, you must maintain a minimum balance of $5 in your savings account at all times.
