Saying Good-Bye!
Blog by Samira Rajan February 11,2026
As you all may remember from our January 25' Blog, Brooklyn Coop bought our own place in December 2024. We have the ground floor of a retail condominium building at 1308 Myrtle Avenue. The last few bits of finishing this space have dragged out unfortunately, but setting up this new space has been incredibly exciting. Alongside that excitement was also the nostalgia of leaving 1474 Myrtle. Opening that office 20 years ago in January 2006 was a game-changer.
The credit union finally had matching furniture LOL! We looked more like a bank, with an ATM lobby and separate spaces for back-office processing, Loan Officers, and Member Service.
People responded with a wave of account openings and new deposits that put Brooklyn Coop on a completely different track.
Over the last 3 years especially, the Myrtle branch deteriorated physically. The landlord could not afford upkeep and I no longer wanted to invest our money into the space knowing we would never be the owners so on our last day of operations (January 13), we were quite relieved.
It is fun to bring along parts of our history as we grow and change. You will recognize a few items from 1474 Myrtle in our new office: the black sign with our old tree logo; the junk sculpture on the wall; a representation of our Grove Street mural.
As of right now, ie., the week of Feb 9, 2026, Brooklyn Coop is waiting for the following things to happen before we welcome members to 1308 Myrtle Avenue.
First, the Dept. of Buildings has to schedule a date for a final inspection; second, the Fire Department has to conduct its own inspection; third, a Certificate of Occupancy must be issued. Ideally our ATM will be installed and tested, but Diebold has not been able to provide us a date.
We share our members’ impatience to begin using this space and I will keep you updated as we learn more about our actual opening date.
