VITA Tax Services

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Preparation) Program offers free tax preparation services to credit union members and community residents. We completed over 4,200 returns in 2014, securing over $5 million in tax refunds for the Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant communities.

FREE TAX PREPARATION:  January 24 – April 15, 2014


FREE Federal and State Income Tax Returns 

  • Households earning $53,000 or less with dependents
  • Single filers earning $25,000 or less
  • Self-employed with expenses of $5,000 or less

Don't pay high fees to get your own refund.

***New*** Drop off Tax Return Preparation: If you don't have time to wait to have your taxes prepared, you may drop off your tax documents with us, and we'll prepare your taxes for you within five days (sometimes quicker than that!).  You can drop off your return at any of our sites.  When you arrive, tell the Intake Worker that your interested in this option.  You'll complete the intake paperwork, and meet briefly for an interview.  Then you leave -- and we'll give you a call when your return is completed!

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security (or ITIN) cards for yourself and all individuals on your return.
  • All W-2 forms, 1099-R, etc.
  • Documentation of higher education expenses, including tuition paid, loans received, student loan interest payments, and student fees.
  • Child care expenses, provider information and tax ID number.
  • Bank account number/routing (ABA) number for direct deposit.
